Welcome to the Silicon Valley Property Taxpayers’ Association - Measure C’s Questionable Facility Kinds of Projects portion of our Web Site.

Notwithstanding proponents’ hype [“Measure C...will improve local college facilities...(and represent)s a smart plan to complete the renovation of classrooms, libraries and labs”], a close inspection of the district’s February 21, 2006 “Bond Measure Cost Summary” [on file in the Chancellor's Office] reveals a whopping 27½% [$80 Million] is earmarked to:

Construct two new student parking structures [at $31.26 Million];

Make $12 Million of upgrades to soccer/baseball fields/stadium tracks;

Resurface student parking lots [at $7.8 Million];

Finish former Measure E projects never completed [at $7.47 Million];

Upgrade landscaping/gardens/irrigation systems [at $5.9 Million];

Upgrade exterior lighting [at $4.6 Million];

Resurface/widen perimeter roadways [at $2.575 Million];

Repair walkways [at $2.15 Million];

Renovate the district’s construction yard [at $2.1 Million];

Upgrade the exterior to Flint Center’s parking garage [at $1.15 Million];

Make $1 Million of elevator upgrades;

Bring wireless internet to the district [at $.86 Million (remember, wireless internet is or soon will be free in Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Mountain View and beyond)]; and,

Install new signage [at $.43 Million].

What do these “projects” have to do with “education” per se, and do they sound like district’s most “urgent and critical facility (kinds of) repairs?”

If you agree the district’s proposed uses of Measure C funding are not warranted because they represent questionable rather than its most “urgent and criticalfacility repairs, we urge you to VOTE NO!
